We are the GRAYSONs that migrated from
TN to MS. At this time we are not certain of who our TN kin are, but our
JAMES C. GRAYSON (that served in Smith's Battery of the Mississippi Army in
the Army of Tennessee under Cheatam) stated that his parents were born in TN
in the 1870 Census. Check out our links.....maybe someone that visits your
site will be able to tell us who our JAMES C. GRAYSON and his family belong
to in TN.

Richard, Thank you so much for passing on that information. I, too, have
checked out the possibility of Hugh and Isabella, but came up with a NO. I
have the pension papers of our JAMES C. GRAYSON and he was only married to
MARTHA CARTER, and died in 1923. He stated that he lived in MS all his life.
The names of their 3 children were, William Monroe Grayson, Anna Kate
Grayson, and Jim Grayson (possibility that this "Jim" was James A. Grayson
that married a Lilly Smith).

How have you doing. I have slowly been working on the Tennesse
Graysons. I was looking through your new version of your web page and
found that you have Henry Grayson who married
Nancy Hixson, listed his name as Henry B. Grayson. I have never found
anything yet that shows his
middle initial as B.?? Do you have any documentation on his middle
initial as B. Also you have Hugh Grayson with a middle initial as A..
I have been working on Hugh. There was a Hugh Grayson listed with a
Jesse Grayson on the 1835 Marion County Tax List. Also Jesse and Hugh
witnessed a will in Marion County. Index to Volunteer Soldiers in
Indian Wars and Disturbances, 1815-1858.
Grayson,Hugh, Pvt, srv in Anderson Co of the 1st TN Mtd Mil in the
Cherokee war. He first married Isabella and then Dorinda Reeder. Hugh
was listed in the 1850 Greene County Arkansas, Powell Township pg 193.
But I have never seen an A. as his middle initial. Can you send me what
you have on Hugh. I am trying to find if Jesse was his father. Not
proven yet.
What I have been working on is Joseph Grayson, brother of Henry. Joseph
and his wife went out to
Missouri. There they died from cholera. Henry went out and brought the
kids back. This is what I have found.

Joseph and his wife Elzda died of Cholera and Henry went out to Missouri
and brought back the children including Mary C. Earls to Marion County.
Do not have a date of their death. Elzada is a sister to the above Mary
C. Earls, who is the daughter of Frederick Earls and his 2nd or third
wife Nancy Pickett. Joseph Grayson was appointed guardian to these
children around 1840-42. Source:

As for Hugh, I have no idea where the middle initial A came from. Ask
Randall about that. What I have heard about is:

a letter dated 1845 Dec 20 from my relative Joseph Grayson referring
to Cousin Hugh

a deed dated 1847 Aug in Marion Co, Tenn, involving Hugh,
Benj. F. Grayson, and Henry Grayson

a deed dated 1835 Feb 11 in Marion Co, Tenn, involving Hugh, Jessee
Grayson, Benj F Grayson, and Henry Grayson. (Is Jessee the father of
Hugh?)
